GABA Culinary Growth Initiative (GCGI)

Michigan’s African restaurant industry is thriving, but many business owners face challenges that limit their ability to grow and succeed. From supply chain issues to high operating costs, limited funding, and workforce shortages, running a successful African restaurant can be difficult. The GABA Culinary Growth Initiative (GCGI) is here to change that.

GABA Foundation is committed to helping African restaurant owners build sustainable businesses by providing the resources, training, and support they need to thrive. Through this initiative, we are offering:

This initiative isn’t just about supporting businesses today—it’s about creating long-term opportunities for African restaurant owners to grow and expand. We’re working to establish:

  • A GABA Culinary Training Academy to train the next generation of African chefs.

  • A Statewide African Restaurant Network to foster collaboration and group purchasing power.

  • Export and Franchise Opportunities to help successful African restaurants expand beyond Michigan.

  • Advocacy for Business-Friendly Policies to support African culinary businesses.

  • Sustainable & Green Restaurant Practices to promote efficiency and reduce waste.
